REGISTRATION AND ADMISSION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

Documents Required in Applications
Candidates are required to submit the following documents for their applications.
a) Foreign Student Application Form: application_form_for_intl._students.doc b) Letter of intent addressed to the program/department applied (maximum 300 words)
c) Certified copy of the high school or equivalent diploma
d) Certified copy of the examination result document showing the minimum required point in any of the English exams below;
1) Succeeding in Izmir University Proficiency Exam (for English medium departments)
2) Getting the following minimum points on Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL): PBT: 500; CBT: 173; IBT: 61
3) Getting at least 5.5 on International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic)
4) Getting FCE: C; CAE: C; CPE: C on Cambridge English for Speakers of other Languages (CAMBRIDGE ESOL)
e) Certified copy of the official score sheet showing the minimum required points/competencies in one of the exams below:
Applications for fee-paying students:
- Minimum 1000 points on SAT I (Scholastic Aptitude Test),
- Minimum 21 points on ACT (American College Test),
- Level A in at least two subjects in GCE (General Certificate Education),
- Diploma grade at least 24 points on International Baccalaureate-IB,
- Diploma grade at least 12 points on French Baccalaureate,
- Minimum 4 points on ABITUR,
- Diploma grade at least 2 on Matura,
- Average grade of at least 80 in all the courses on Tawjihi exam in Jordan and Palestine,
- Getting at least 70 out of 100 on Baccalaureate Libanais offered in Lebanon or diploma grade at least 13,
- Getting at least 170 out of 240 in the relevant point category of the program applied on Al-Shahada-Al-Thanawiyya Baccalaureate) in Syria,
- At least 12 out of 20 on Iranian high school diploma (Diplome Debirastan) and “Pişdaneşgahi” final grade at least 12 out of 20,
- At least 450 points out of 750 in Gaokao university entrance exam offered in China in the relevant point category of the program applied,
- At least 40 points on YÖS (Exam for Foreign Students).
Students who apply for scholarships must meet the requirements indicated above. Scholarship conditions and quotas are determined by Izmir University Senate.
Other Conditions
- Having a high school diploma for applications to associate and undergraduate programs.
- Being able to document sufficient language skills for the medium of instruction of the department applied. In case of lack of documentation, the language proficiency of the candidate is assessed by a commission determined by Izmir University Rectorate. Also, the candidate may be advised to take the language preparatory program.
- Not being dismissed from any higher education institution in Turkey due disciplinary action.
Required Documents
The documents required for application and final registration are indicated below;
Documents Required During Application;
- Foreign Student Application Form.
- Photocopy of high school diploma and notarized version of its Turkish or English translation.
- Certified copy of the Equivalency Document taken from Turkish Ministry of Education indicating that the high school diploma is equivalent to those taken from Turkish high schools.
- Photocopy of official transcript and notarized copy of the Turkish or English translation.
- Notarized copy of the identity card or identification page of passport.
- Bank receipt indicating that the application fee has been paid.
- One passport size photograph.
- Applications should be made until 27 August 2010 Friday the latest, until the end of the working day.
Documents Required During Final Registration;
- The original high school diploma and a notarized English translation, or Turkish translation approved by the Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin.
- Original Equivalency Document taken from Turkish Ministry of Education indicating that the high school diploma is equivalent to those taken from Turkish high schools.
- Original official transcript and Turkish translation approved by the Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin or a notarized English translation.
- Copy of the identification page of passport approved by the Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin.
- “Student Visa” taken from the Turkish Consulate in the country of origin.
- 4 passport size photographs.
- Bank receipt indicating that the tuition fee has been paid.
Moreover, foreign students accepted to Turkish medium programs are required to submit Turkish Proficiency Certificate obtained from the Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin, in addition to the documents mentioned above. In case of lack of documentation, the student’s language proficiency is determined by a commission appointed by Izmir University Rectorate.
8. Final registration of foreign students will be held during 1 to 7 September 2010.
Exams and validity periods
There is no limitation about the validity periods for high school graduation exams (Abitur, International Baccalaureate, GCE, etc. Tawjihi) in evaluating students. However, the validity period is limited to two years for examinations in the status of university entrance exams (SAT, SCI, etc…).
EXCHANGE STUDENTS
International exchange students are welcome to study at Izmir University for a semester or year.
This can be possible either through an existing institutional agreement between Izmir University and the partner university; or international students from non-partner universities can apply individually.
Incoming Erasmus students are exempt from tuition fees; however non-Erasmus exchange students are subject to tuition fees.
